FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How can information about down payment assistance programs be obtained?
Down payment assistance providers normally post information about the eligibility, requirements and awards related to their programs online. Also, there may be opportunities for interested applicants to attend recorded, virtual or in-person information sessions.

How can housing counseling be helpful to a prospective homebuyer?
Housing counseling is offered to work one-one-one with homebuyers to review their budget, homebuying goals and plan of action for moving forward.

What forms must be completed to attend a Home Buyers Education Class and why must they be completed?
The Intake, Privacy Policy and Program Disclosure are among the forms required for class participation. These forms allow our agency to report who were serve in the form of grouped data and ensure confidentiality for participants. A government-issued ID provides proof of the identity of the client(s) involved. The forms allow for two signatures and/or initials, if two individuals will be on the home loan. The fully completed certificate authorization form is required for release of a group education certificate

Are homebuyer classes available online in a self-paced format?
RRC offers a self-paced homebuyer education learning option in multiple languages.

Do I need to pay for a home inspection and property appraisal?
Yes. The home inspection and appraisal performed on the property that you are considering to purchase are part of the homebuying process and are paid for by the prospective homebuyer.  A home inspection has become a requirement for certain down payment assistance programs. Home inspections provide great insight into the roof, attic/crawlspace, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, as well as health and safety considerations among other things.

What is Homestead Exemption?
When a homeowner applies for and is granted a homestead exemption, their property tax bill will be reduced. This can be helpful and is definitely worth the effort required to apply with the local county tax assessor. Whether you are moving to Acworth, Kennesaw, Stone Mountain, Mableton, Decatur, Inman Park, Reynoldstown, Kirkwood, Fairburn, Senoia, Serembe, etc. homeowners should be sure the complete this step.
